THESE ARE THE OLDEST MOSQUE IN INDONESIA

In Indonesia there are a lot of mosque who are already in hundreds of year of age. These old mosque are the legacy which we should preserve and moreover we should know where and how is the condition of these mosque up to now. In fact, most of the old mosque are approximately 400-700 years old.

Let’s check it out:

  1. Masjid Saka Tunggal (1288)

Masjid Saka Tunggal is located in the village Cikakak Wangon subdistrict, Banyumas, Central Java Province. This mosque was built in 1288, as written on the Saka Guru or the main pillars of the mosque.

Nevertheless, the year of manufacture would be more obvious, when viewed from the books left by the founder of the mosque, namely Kyai Mustolih.

Unfortunately, these books had disappeared many years ago. This mosque, is called Saka Tunggal as the pillar of the mosque consists of only one pole

  1. Masjid Wapauwe (1414)

Wapauwe Mosque is the oldest mosque in Maluku and is very historic. The age had already reached seven centuries. This mosque was built in 1414 AD, and is still standing strong.

The mosque, which is located in Kampung Tehala, Maluku was formerly located in Tanah Hitu. But were removed because of a disruption of the Dutch in 1580, when Indonesia suffered colonization.

  1. Masjid Ampel (1421)

Ampel Mosque is located in the village Ampel, Semampir districts, the city of Surabaya, East Java. Mosque with an area of 120 x 180 meters was established in 1421 by Sunan Ampel. Therefore, this time near the mosque made the cemetery belongs to Sunan Ampel. Now, the mosque became one of religious tourism in the city of Surabaya.

  1. Masijd Agung Demak (1401)

This mosque was built in the 15th century AD, by Raden Patah which at the time became the first king of the Sultanate of Demak. The mosque is believed to have become a gathering place for clerics or the guardian of Islam in Java called Walisongo.

Walisongo and Raden Patah has established this charismatic mosque to give a similar picture of bulus (a kind of soft shelled turtle). Bulus image is composed of the head, which means one, four legs which means four, bulus body which means zero, and the tail of bulus which means one. From the symbols, it is estimated that the Great Mosque of Demak established in 1401

  1. Masjid Agung Sang Cipta Rasa (1480)

The mosque is located in the complex of Kasepuhan Palace, Cirebon, West Java, Indonesia. Built in 1480 AD, the construction of the mosque was reportedly involved 500 people who had come from Majapahit, Demak and Cirebon.

  1. Masjid Sultan Suriansyah (1526)

This historic mosque located in the city of Banjarmasin which is the oldest mosque in South Kalimantan. This mosque was built during the reign of Sultan Suriansyah who is King of Banjar who was the first to convert to Islam, which is about 1526 – 1550. The mosque, which was founded on the banks of the river named KUIN and has the form of the traditional architecture of Banjar, with the “Konstruksi Panggung” and overlapping roof. On the mihrab of the mosque, there is a roof which is separated from the main building.

  1. Masjid Menara Kudus

Menara Kudus Mosque is a mosque built by Sunan Kudus in 1549 AD or the year 956 Hijriah, using stones Baitul Maqdis of Palestine as the first stone. The mosque is located in the village Kauman, Kota districts, Kudus counties, Central Java. This mosque has a similar tower of candi, because it is a blend of Islamic culture with Hindu culture.

  1. Masjid Agung Banten (1552)

Banten Grand Mosque was built around 1552 by Sultan Maulana Hasanuddin, who is the first sultan of the Sultanate of Banten. Located in the village of Banten Lama, the mosque also has a lot of historical value, every day is always visited by pilgrims. The mosque is known of the tower shape which is very similar to the shape of a Lighthouse. INDONESIA how rich thou are!
